Method of Delivery
Live lecture. Textbook included in course fee.
Course Structure
The course design is dictated by the Department of Real Estate (DRE) and requires you to demonstrate mastery of the subject matter in one chapter of the course before progressing to the next. This means:
- The chapter and quizzes are mandatory.
- You must advance through the chapter quizzes in a linear fashion and cannot advance to the next chapter quiz until the previous chapter’s reading assignment chapter quiz has been completed.
- You cannot access the course final examination and complete the course until all reading assignments and chapter quizzes have been completed.
Course Descriptions
Real Estate Principles: Textbook: California Real Estate Principles; Stapleton, Williams; 2017; 10th Edition. 45-hour live course. Required by the Department of Real Estate (DRE) and meets the pre-licensing required for real estate and/or broker license. Covers every area of professional specialization and reviews all aspects of real property ownership.
Real Estate Practice: Textbook: California Real Estate Practice; Pivar, Anderson, Otto; 2017; 9th Edition. 45-hour live course. This is the practical application of real estate knowledge to meet the needs of buyers, sellers, lessors, and lessees. Mandatory pre-license course for sales license applicants.
Property Management: Textbook: Property Management; Kyle, Spodek, Baird; 2017; 10th Edition. 45-hour live course. Teaches basics of residential property management including preparing property for rent, advertising property, written leases and other legal aspects including eviction and tenant landlord laws. Also basics about retail, commercial and industrial property management. Students receive certificate upon completion of this course.
Time to Complete
The course is comprised of 15 classes, 3 hours each.
Final Examination & Passing the Course
In order for you to pass this course, you will be required to take and pass a final examination (100 multiple choice, 2.5 hours, 60% or better to pass).
What happens if you fail an exam?
If you do not pass the final exam on the first try, you may take the written in class final exam one more time.
Course Completion
Completion of a course includes taking and passing the course final examination. The final examination must be taken no later than the last day of completion of the course.
Course Completion Certificate
All certificates are provided in person to the student at the last class upon passing the final exam.
Live Course Identification Statement
Participants shall provide one of the following forms of identification below immediately before admittance to a live presentation of an offering:
- A current California driver’s license
- A current identification card described in Section 13000 of the California Vehicle Code
- Any identification of the participant issued by a governmental agency or a recognized real estate related trade organization within the immediately preceding five years which bears a photograph, signature and identification number of the participant
Correspondence Course Identification Statement
Participants shall provide one of the following forms of identification below immediately before admittance to a live presentation of an offering:
- A current California driver’s license
- A current identification card described in Section 13000 of the California Vehicle Code
- Any identification of the participant issued by a governmental agency or a recognized real estate related trade organization within the immediately preceding five years which bears a photograph, signature and identification number of the participant

Attendance Policy
For live courses, students must attend a minimum of 90% of the approved course hours to be eligible to receive DRE pre-license course credit.
Refund Policy
For live courses, full refunds will only be made if a course is closed by the Simi Institute or if the days and/or times of the class are changed and the student cannot attend. Original receipts must be provided and a refund request form must be completed before a refund can be given. Refunds are typically processed in two to six weeks. Unless specifically noted, registration processing fee of $75.00 is withheld from all refunds.
