Application Process for Respiratory Therapy / Surgical Technology

Application Dates

Applications are now available for download or for pick-up in the Counseling Office (Room 402). All applications must be submitted no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required and must be paid at the time of the application submission.

Excelsior College Fee

The total approximate cost for enrollment, tuition, and graduation is between $5,800 - $8,700 depending upon credits. More information will be available during the application process. Application Process

  1. Completed application and non-refundable application fee must be submitted by Friday, March 20, 2026 at 3:00 pm.

  2. Once your application is submitted with relevant attachments, you will receive an email regarding TABE testing.
  3. TABE testing of all applicants for reading comprehension and math skills is scheduled and conducted.
  4. Interviews with RT or ST staff are scheduled and conducted.
  5. Upon completion of the RT / ST application process, all applicants will be notified of their status in the program via email.

Program Selection

Selection for the Respiratory Therapy Program / Surgical Technology Program is based on:

  • Application essay
  • Written entrance test of adult basic skills
    • Part 1: English - reading comprehension and language skills
    • Part 2: Math Skills - equations, fractions, percentages, scientific notation, pre-algebra
  • An interview with Simi Institute staff
  • Academic preparation (from optional transcripts)
  • Relevant work experience or volunteer work (listed in application)

Although not required for admission, successful completion of college courses and experience in the medical field are considered in work experience, volunteer work, or involvement in school clubs is favorable.
