Medical Terminology

This course (AH100) provides students with a fundamental knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations. Emphasis is placed on spelling, definition, usage, and pronunciation. Major topics include: medical terms, prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combining forms for the skeletal, muscular, integumentary, nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine, digestive, renal, lymphatic, respiratory, reproductive systems, and medical and charting abbreviations. This class is recommended prior to enrolling in other SICE medical career program courses. It also meets the course requirements for the Surgical Technology and Respiratory Therapy programs.

Prerequisite: Must be 18 years or older and speak, read, and write English at the 11th grade US high school level.

More than 1,500 cooperating colleges and universities (including most California Community Colleges and Cal State Universities) will consider granting college credit based on NCCRS credit recommendations. Additional colleges may also award college units for SICE Medical Career Courses.
