Program Overview

Simi Institute for Careers & Education is proud to offer a Hairstyling & Haircutting certificate program for SVUSD students beginning in 11th grade. This two year program provides students with the 600 hours of training required to sit for the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Hairstyling written exam (not included with course).

Students will learn health and safety practices plus basic and advanced hairstyling and haircutting. They will also have the opportunity to train in Simi Institute's public, on-campus salon. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive priority enrollment in Simi Institute's evening Cosmetology program.

Program Details

Year 1 (Grade 11): Intro to Hairstyling & Haircutting

Year 2 (Grade 12): Advanced Hairstyling & Haircutting

High School Credits: 10 credits per semester (A-G: Fine Art; Elective)

CTE Pathway: Fashion and Interior Design: Cosmetology (162C)

Schedule

Program Length: 2 years (600 hours / 4 semesters)

Days: Monday - Thursday (plus 2-3 Saturdays)

Time: 2:50 pm - 4:30 pm

Location: Simi Institute for Careers & Education

Prerequisites: Must be a junior at SVUSD high schools and have their own reliable transportation
